Empower Change with the Social Stride Toolkit

Transformative Conversations on Online Hate and Discrimination

At the John Humphrey Centre, we're devoted to driving positive change by fostering meaningful dialogue in the community. We're thrilled to introduce the Social Stride Toolkit, a resource designed to support facilitators on their journeys of holding space and dialogue on sensitive topics, including online hate and discrimination.

Developed in collaboration with the amazing youth from the Social Stride Education Team, this toolkit was launched during the Social Stride Young Leadership and Digital Literacy Series in Edmonton from December 6-8th, 2023. During this series, 18 young people from across Canada were trained using the toolkit to hone their facilitation skills and explore strategies for addressing concerns when holding space.

These young people highly valued this toolkit as a practical way to grow their skills and empower them to facilitate dialogues on sensitive topics. Whether you're a youth or adult looking to start your facilitation journey, this toolkit provides practical tools and resources that will help you to initiate community conversations that focus on utilizing collective knowledge to move conversations forward.

From interactive activities to facilitation roles, the toolkit offers a circle process framework of dialogue that is empowering and fosters understanding and critical thinking. By leveraging the power of dialogue, we can challenge harmful behavior, online and in person, and cultivate a more inclusive community.

This toolkit is available online. While our resources are free and open, we do ask that you consider contributing to our Trust Fund to sustain long-term human rights education.

We thank the Department of Canadian Heritage, Edmonton Community Foundation, the Government of Alberta, SM Blair Foundation, Canadian Multicultural Education Foundation  and Canadian Race Relations Foundation for their support of this effort.
