VOLUNTEERING AT JHC
Currently, there are 6 ways to volunteer at the JHC:
Office and Administration volunteers come in during a weekday between 10-3 to provide support to the JHC team. This can include scanning artwork, answering the phone, preparing materials, research, writing letters, sending out information and invitations… whatever it is that is a priority for us. This is good for residents in the West End of Edmonton. If you can plan to come in on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday for 3-5 hours, then send us a line.
Stride Advocacy volunteers connect to, document and support people who are experiencing human rights concerns in Alberta. Find out more about Stride here. We host regular trainings and gatherings to strengthen and reconnect as a larger team.
Committee Volunteers - The JHC Board has a number of committees that need volunteer support including the Community Engagement Committee. Contact us to find out which committees are in need of volunteers.
Education or Facilitation volunteers are part of our education and facilitation team. To be a volunteer in this area, you must be an alumni of one of our education/training programs. Contact us if you are a past alumni or to find out about future trainings.
Event Volunteers are short term volunteers that help out with specific events. We need support with registration, food, and typing/recording on an ongoing basis.
Board of Directors - Annually the membership elects volunteer Directors to the Board who are responsible for governance matters of the organization. Board members are also welcome to engage in programming at the Centre. Board applications will be available in the summer of 2019. Please fill out the form.
There are also optional monthly team meetings to debrief as volunteers and staff on the first Monday of the month at 12 pm. This is dedicated as a time to touch base, reflect and plan forward as a larger team. It is possible to link in via video or phone via Zoom.
