Igniting Change on Canada's Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence

On September 16, 2025, the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights launched the research report Igniting Change on Canada's Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.


This groundbreaking research applies a human rights lens to Canada’s National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence (GBV), highlighting both achievements and urgent gaps while setting out a clear strategy for action.

The report calls for a stronger, coordinated national response to one of Canada’s most pressing human rights crises. It:

  • pinpoints progress and persistent shortcomings in the National Action Plan;

  • recommends priority actions for policymakers, service providers, and community leaders; and

  • proposes a strategy to activate the Plan’s Five Pillars, centring the leadership of marginalized communities.
