About Us
The Food Security & Food Justice Ecosystem of Edmonton (FSFJE) is a collective of grassroots leaders, mutual aid groups, non-profits, and advocates committed to advancing food justice, sovereignty, and dignity in our communities. Supported by the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (JHC) and the Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative (MCHB), the FSFJE is building stronger relationships, amplifying community voices, and influencing systems change.
We believe food is a human right—and that access to culturally appropriate, nutritious food must be community-driven, sustainable, and equitable.
About the WhatsApp Community Platform
Our new WhatsApp community is part of our strategy to build a streamlined, peer-led communication network for food justice stakeholders. It is a space to share information, coordinate supports, and collaborate on advocacy and mutual aid efforts. The platform includes multiple themed channels such as:
Access to Food (resources, culturally appropriate options, food diversion, #ISO/#Offers)
Access to Space (kitchen/event space, yardshares, #ISOs/#Offers)

Volunteer Role: WhatsApp Admin & Community Monitor
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate volunteers to serve as admins for the FSFJE WhatsApp community. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about food justice, skilled in online moderation, and eager to help build community collaboration in Edmonton.
Responsibilities
Monitor activity across WhatsApp channels to ensure respectful, non-partisan, and inclusive communication.
Guide users by helping them post in appropriate channels, and repost or redirect content as needed.
Foster a culture of respect and collaboration in all interactions.
Support content sharing, including updates on volunteer needs, funding, events, and mental health supports.
Help flag and resolve conflicts or harmful content with guidance from FSFJE moderators.
Track municipal opportunities by reviewing City of Edmonton meeting agendas/minutes and sharing relevant food-related engagement opportunities.
Document community needs and feedback when relevant, supporting ongoing learning and advocacy.
