An Update on the Stride Advocacy Program
After much reflection, the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (JHC) has made the difficult decision to formally conclude the individual advocacy support element of JHC’s Stride Advocacy program. Initially launched in 2017 as an emergency response, Stride has always been an unfunded program, whose work has been carried out by the efforts of our JHC staff and volunteer network. Stride became a vital source of dignity-centered, community-based human rights advocacy made possible by the incredible dedication of our volunteers. Thank you for your care, commitment, and unwavering support.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding for community based advocacy and ongoing resource constraints, we are no longer able to continue this work. While we will no longer accept new cases, all active files will continue to be supported and closed with care. Moving forward, our focus will shift back to our core mandate of capacity building, human rights education, training, and advancing systemic change; efforts we believe can drive broader, long-term impact.
We're incredibly grateful to the Alberta Law Foundation for supporting a comprehensive review of Stride’s eight-year journey and impact. You can read the report here:
