More than a Meal: Lessons from "Right to Food" Models

  • Rock Soup Greenhouse & Foodbank 6501 47 Street Wetaskiwin, AB, T9A 3P5 Canada (map)

Right to Food (formerly Community Food Centres Canada) represents a transformative approach to food access, one that goes beyond emergency aid to foster connection, dignity, and resilience. This learning session will be hosted at, and spotlight Rock Soup Greenhouse and Food Bank, a grassroots model rooted in the values of shared meals, cultural relevance, wraparound supports, and mutual respect. We are thrilled to also welcome folks from The Alex Community Food Centre, a welcoming space based in Calgary for people to come together to grow, cook, share and advocate for good food for all. Through storytelling and shared experience, Rock Soup and The Alex will highlight how they create space for belonging and empowerment, especially for those often excluded from traditional food systems.

This session invites food stakeholders, service providers, and community members to reflect on how we can move from food charity to food justice and build systems that are community-led and care-centered.

This event will be both online and in-person, so please share widely!
