The John Humphrey Centre is proud to present the annual Rights in the Sun (RITS) Program, an interactive human rights program for summer camps, youth groups and schools. This program, conducted through human rights games, is designed to engage children and youth ages 5-25 in human rights learning.
The Rights in the Sun Program can be conducted in one of two ways:
1. Camp Sessions
Our coordinators will come out to your Summer Camp to conduct one hour to full day sessions and tailor it to your needs, interests and requirements. The range of human rights issues covered through this program is comprehensive, ranging from:
- human rights and globalization
- racism and discrimination
- human rights and the environment
- women’s rights
The games and discussions are all tailored to fit the appropriate age groups.
2. Train the Trainers
Later on in the summer (June/July), our coordinators train your camp counsellors in how to use our Rights in the Sun curriculum, the primary resource for this program. Your counsellors will then be able to conduct their own Rights in the Sun program within camps, allowing your camp to conduct this program to a wider audience. Your counsellors will also gain a valuable training experience in facilitation.
All RITS programs use the Rights in the Sun curriculum, available for purchase through the John Humphrey Centre for $15 + shipping and handling.
