Youth Educators for Human Rights

The John Humphrey for Peace and Human Rights each summer delivers our Youth Educators for Human Rights volunteer program.  Educators will gain skills in experiential methods of training for and of human rights to children and youth and will assist with the implementation of our annual Rights in the Sun summer camp programming as well as requests throughout the year for human rights sessions for children in schools throughout our community.

With one full day training, participants must attend this training session and support us with the implementation of a minimum of four sessions throughout the summer to receive a certificate as a Youth Educator for Human Rights.  This training will get participants accustomed to our curriculum resources and the concepts surrounding human rights education. They will learn about various aspects of human rights and have an impact by educating about human rights at the local level!

Educating children and youth about human rights is critical in our community to build a society of peace, compassion and inclusion. This is a great opportunity to become involved in the field of human rights education in a very hands on and fun way. The ‘Rights in the Sun’ program is centered around the curriculum that has been put together over the past 11 years, it is filled with fun, interactive games which allow youth to better understand both their own rights and those of others.  If you are interested and willing to assist us in delivering sessions throughout the summer (1-3 hours in length), please get in touch. We need your help.

RITS and the Youth Educator training will be back in the summer of 2012.  Until then, if you have any questions, or would like to book a RITS session for your event, please contact us at 780.453.2638.
