Today, on Feature Wednesday, we are showcasing an amazing organization that doesn’t nearly get enough attention that it deserves: the Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association (ANFCA).
The ANFCA is a provincial organization representing and supporting to 20 different Friendship Centres located in Alberta. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal people living in urban areas by supporting activities that encourage:
- development of human and community resources
- improvement of socio-economic and physical conditions
- better understanding and relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal citizens
- enhancement of Aboriginal culture among Aboriginal people and the communities they reside in
To support these goals, the ANFCA is doing their first annual Walk for Friendship event on June 1st. This is a new community outreach initiative with the goal of promoting the services programs ANFCA provides and improve relations between the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community. This initiative features a 4k walk from the Percy Page Centre to Prince Charles School to raise funds to support local youth recreation initiatives.
This annual event will also celebrate the ANFCA’s 40th anniversary.
Support this organization and their initiatives by taking part in the Walk for Friendship! More information and pledge forms are available on their website (by clicking on any of the above links).
The John Humphrey Centre will be there on June 1st. Come out and support the ANFCA with us!
