On May 8th, the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights and Racism Free Edmonton will be hosting the Indigenous Storytelling Event as part of the International Day for Sharing Life Stories. This Event works to build an understanding of the history of Aboriginal people is at the core of creating relationships of trust in Canada that promote and advance freedom and justice.

As part of the International Day for Sharing Life Stories, this is a space where people of all backgrounds can come together and celebrate human rights and promote education. This event will explore Aboriginal historical impacts and the myths and misconceptions that exist in our community.

DATE: Saturday, May 8, 2010

TIME: 1:00 – 4:30

WHERE: Heritage Room, City Hall

COST: Free but please RSVP to Chelsea Freeborn (chelsea@jhcentre.org)

Sharing life stories is a fascinating way of promoting peace and justice because it puts the issues on human terms–how it affects other people, impacting their lives directly without the media filter that sometimes distorts reality and defines truth that isn’t always truthful.
